Which cities should I visit in Central Europe?

salzburg travel
fobulous :] asked:

Hey guys!

I’ll be traveling to Stuttgart in two weeks and before I left I wanted to plan for a small 3-5 day trip touring other places in early August. I will be staying with a family in Stuttgart and was wondering where I should visit during the few days that WE (my sister and I) have out of Stuttgart.

Here are some cities that I had in mind:
Heidelberg
Lucerne
Bern

But then I thought if had to move around so much in Switzerland,
would it be better just to stick to one place, maybe for instance,
just go to Salzburg and stay there for 3 days instead and then to Heidelberg for a day? Please tell me your thoughts!

AND if I decide to go to Switzerland what is the best way to purchase the rail tickets, I know to get the Germany-Switzerland one, but since I am only 15 I qualify for a child, but I do not have an adult, could my sister who is 18, just buy an adult ticket, so that I could ride free?

You should really add Zürich to your list. it´s cool and very interesting. Spent so many nights there.

Go to Salzburg for 3 days, or Munich. Both are lovely cities.

I don’t think you can get ‘free’ transport, but seeing as you’re under 18, you might get a reduced rate.

ok for a start you are heading in the wrong direction, with all respect, a short train ride to munich could fill your five days easily, and 3 days for salzburg to be honest is a tad too much, i would suggest you take a train to munich from stuttgart, i dont know about prices for that i have never been in stuttgart, however what you can then do is head to salzburg using a bayern ticket, it costs 22 euros for up to 5 people and lasts all day, and it covers your tran ride to salzburg as it is consiedered as the ‘gateway’ city between bavaria and austria, then its a case of getting back to munich and then back to stuttgart again, which would be a cheaper way which would see you 2 countries instead of 1, and a far superior city in munich while also including salzburg as you said:-)
