What’s your favorite city in Europe and why?

salzburg travel
Cindie asked:

My family has been stationed in Germany for 2 years now. In those two years we’ve managed to have two kids and visit a lot of Europe. We have 6 months left to travel a little more while were there. These are places we’ve been…
Germany; Munich, frankfurt, Rothenburg, Nuremburg
Hollang; Amsterdam
Austria; Salzburg
Italy; Cinque Terre, Venice, Rome, Florence, Pisa
Chek; Cheb, Prague
I was thinking about somwhere in Spain, maybe Switzerland…Ireland.
If you visited Europe and had a favorite city that you think everyone should visit, I want to hear about it! Why was it your favorite and what’s there to see? Thanks for everyone who gives me suggestions!

Naut. Fortress remains of a fortress.

Different from usual itineraries. Not sure what it is like now.

Was a good place to visit when there though and not in a nice play to visit but I would not like to live there way.

My favorite cities are London, England; Zagreb, Croatia; and Senj, Croatia.

London – I have never visited the city myself, but I know people who live there. Ever since I was little, my dreams were to move to London. The scenery, the history, the stories of the city make me feel like I was supposed to be born there; not here.

Zagreb – I’m Croatian and a Dinamo fan! It’s a great city with so many wonderful things to do. I have family that live there.

Senj – I visited this city, too. And let me tell you, it’s one of the most wonderful places you could ever possibly dream of. It’s not small nor is it too big. The night scene is amazing. They have everything for adults and everything for kids. The beaches are beautiful. You can see several Croatian islands. You can also see Velebit, which is Croatia’s largest mountain range. The cemetery will give you a good spook and the old castle/fortress is open for you to climb through the walls and eat good old Croatian food. It’s very low compared to the other cities, if that makes sense. You have to go down a mountain to get to Senj. It’s quite a trip.

I lived in Sevilla, Spain. You would LOOOOOOOVE it! I love it, because I know it so intimately, but even people who only spend a week or less there, come away with a sense of the true, old fashioned, romantic Spain. It’s a very colorful city, with a strong history of mixed cultures. The monuments are gorgeous, the food is incredible, the people are warmer than the air. (which, at about 114 in the shade in the evening in June…well, you get it.)

Plus, and you can’t miss this, Granada isn’t terribly far, about 4 hours by train, I think…and the Alhambra…The Jewel of Arab palaces.

Anyplace else in Spain is worth seeing, but those are the two cities that you must do if you have the time.

(i wouldn’t discount Switzerland, though…love it there, too – and Ireland is pretty neat, too…looks like you have really taken advantage of the opportunities)

Wait! You haven’t been to paris or london? You should try to get to them, too.

For me it’s Ljubljana in Slovenia. Lots of history, very friendly people who speak good English, cheap, not too crowded, not too huge to explore in a short period of time…

I liked Slovenia and Croatia…..they are smaller towns/cities but I really loved them for different reasons.
Lake Bled in Slovenia is lovely ( and Lake Bohinj is more scenic and less populated)…..Ljubljana is called a little Prague and it does have the feel of Prague but I have to say I prefer Prague….its still nice. You get the mountain scenery of Switzerland/Austria without the prices!

Croatia has stunning coastlines!!! sooooo pretty.
I visited Zagreb ( inland and has a completely different feel to coastal towns), Dubrovnik is very pretty, SPlit and Zadar are worth a look as well. As I said they are quite small towns and need only a day or so to get the feel for and see a few things.
Its cheaper than other places as well.

My first and foremost favorite city in Europe is Ulcinj (Montenegro), because it’s beautiful and my entire paternal side of the family is there. Not to mention, it has the longest beach in all of Montenegro. If, in any case, you do decide to visit, do not forget to visit a restaurant called Kalaja in the old city fortress overlooking the sea. It’s gorgeous, afforable and the calamari is great.
I have got to say, Dubrovnik (Croatia) is my second favorite city. It’s just beautiful in ALL ways possible. Been there twice and hope to go back soon.
Sarajevo is pretty nice too, but it all depends on your personal taste.
