What are the best places to visit while traveling from Berlin, Germany, to Salzburg, Austria?

asked:

My grandparents are planning to take me to Germany in a year or two, but the only place I know I want to go is Berlin. My grandmother would like to go to Austria. She didn’t specify a city, so I just chose Salzburg – right on the border, near Transtein (Germany). What are some good places to visit, that are historical (like the Berlin wall) or beautiful, like a mountain range or something? We want to visit 2 – 4 cities, starting in Berlin.

I went to Germany last summer and did drive into Salzburg. It is gorgeous. I would recommend stopping in Regensburg Germany. That is where i stayed and i absolutely loved it. Also it is a must to stop in Munich.

You should drop by Hamburg and Bremen and then go south to Munich and Dresden as well.

Why don’t you drive South from Berlin, through to Prague. Continue south to Cesky Krumlov, then south across the Austrian border, continue to Salzburg through Vienna.

Hamburg and Bremen would make no sense . they are off your route.

Apart from that, I like the suggestions here.
From Berlin, you should go to Potsdam, Dresden, Prague, Nuremburg, Munich ans Salzburg. That yould be a straightforward route consisting of beautiful, ancient cities.

The in-betweens and additional stops are up to you really.
Near Dresden, for example, you have the “Nationalpark Sächsische Schweiz”, which is a very beatiful landscape for doing walks and taking pictures; also there is a famous park on the German-Polish border near Görlitz.
Once you are in Bavaria, you have a vast choice of historical cities (Würzburg, Bamberg, Regensburg, Augsburg, etc.); and in Austria, you can go on travelling, as long as you have got time and money, seeing Innsbruck, Villach, Graz in particular, Vienna, and then just across the borders you have Bratislava, Ljubljana and Zagrab.
