travelling from austria to munich by train. Info needed?

salzburg travel
iyiem asked:

I will be travelling from vienna to salzburg and then to munich by train this June. I am wondering whether I am applicable to buy the VORTEILScard since I am not a citizen of Austria or Germany… If so, how do I go about buying it (the form on the website is not in English??!)? Or whether it is possible (and recommended) to buy the card and train tickets when I get to Vienna?
do i have to be a resident of austria to buy the card then?

You don’t necessarily need to be an Austrian citizen; however; you need to provide an address in Austria to get the Vorteilscard. Once you fill in the application form you’ll get a piece of paper and the card will be sent to the given address. With this paper you can buy your tickets taking advantage of the discounts for Austria(50 % off) and Germany (25% off).

I am not sure if the address will be appear on the provisional card but your name is.Once you are in the train, at some point, you’ll be asked to show your ticket and your Vorteilscard, in this case the provisional one, and you may also be asked to show an ID or your credit card if paid with it. Here is when you could have a problem by showing an ID with no address in Austria. You probably could lie and say that you are a student and forgot your student ID. However, if the person checking the tickets suspects something, you may finish paying the correct price for the tickets and a little bit more. Don’t forget that this is only a possibility sometimes you never get controlled.

In Vienna, you can buy the Card at the train station, in this case I suppose you’ll be leaving from Westbahnhof. You could also fill in the form online, print it and take it with a pass foto to the train station to be processed. Because the vorteilscard purpose is to help people living in Austria not tourists, you will find the online form only in German.

If you know someone living there, ask them to help you with the form and the address.

Do you know about the EUR29?

Vienna to Munich for only 29 EUR, limited number of tickets, better to buy them as soon as possible, valid only for that day and specific train, with or without vorteilscard.
