I don’t see why you can’t do both. Get a room in Munich for 2 or 3 nights, and do a daytrip to Salzburg. It’s small and I walked all around the town in a few hours. Munich is big so you should read up in a guidebook for the coolest parts of town to explore.
I like Lonely Planet and Let’s Go guides best.
It’s just a 1 1/2 hour train ride. You could leave Munich at 9.27, get to Sbg. at 10:54. Head back from Sbg. at 16:53, arr. Mun. at 18:34. There are frequent trains.
Salzburg bc of Mozart and the castle. Munich is nice, but Salzburg is really worth the visit.
Salzburg without any doubt! Very nice !!!!!!!!!!!!
Both are great … hard to choose. Munich has great night life, I don’t know anything about the night life in Salzburg.
Salzburg if you love nature
munich if you want to see a big city

If you have to choose only one city, that’s will be Salzburg, in my opinion. Much more romantic !
