so my mother, daughter and i are going to Salzburg Austria for Christmas. I am looking for things to do. We have booked our hotel and we have also booking our spots on the Sound of Music Tour Bus (dont judge me i love that movie) My daughter is 16 months and we are looking for things to do with my daughter. We saw a Christmas Sleigh Ride and my mother and I were very interested in it but we think it will be too cold for my daughter. I am heading to Austria in about 9 weeks (October) My wife and I are planning on visiting Innsbruck, Salzburg perhaps Wein (Vienna) I try to use the names of the countries and not Americanize their names.

Anyway, pretty much for the month of October we will be there. We didn’t want to make any reservations for quarters because we wanted some flexibility in our travels.

Are there dates or towns that due to size and or events that would make booking ahead of time be beneficial?
(Events/holidays or busy tourism season, conferences being held in a particular city on certain days known in October 2010?)

Also, any special advice or excursions/must see sites are also appreciated.

We are traveling mostly in Austira between Veinna, Salzburg, Innsbruck, Hallstatt as well as Munich and Fussen in Germany. We are doing this is 11 days and are wanting a rail pass sold online that allows you up to 10 days of unlimited travel. However I have never been there or taken a train so I am clueless as to the process. Would we just show up at the train station and show our pass? If anyone has done a pass for Austira and Germany. Any help would be great!!
