Hi There.
I’ve booked flights to Salzburg and will be arriving there wednesday evening and leaving saturday evening. I haven’t booked any accommodation yet as I’m not sure where I should go. I’m interested in going to Hallstat (as it looks really nice in pictures) and also Zel Am See and of course sightsee in Salzburg. But I’m open to anywhere you guys think would be good to see. I’m traveling alone and am in my early 20′s. Is there much to do in these places? Is it worth spending a night in each place and touring round these places? Or would it be better to stay in Salzburg and just do day trips to these places?
I’ve been to Vienna and Innsbruck before and really enjoyed the landscape and wilderness feeling (which you don’t get in London). Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance! 
We stayed in a little village called Lofer, it has fantastic walks, they speak english everywhere and the food is really cheap and good. We stay at Haus Patricia and cant recommend it enough. The scenery is beautiful and its not touristy. Its worth a visit to Mondsee also but we found in Austria you do need to hire a car to get around.
There used to be this really great independent hostel in Salzburg, I stayed there a few times. I can’t remember the name, but it was only a few minutes away from the railway station … try, you might be lucky.
